After a long, courageous battle with Thrombocytopenia and Myelofibrosis, on September 24, 2009, I made the most difficult decision of my life. I had to euthanize my beloved Boxer, Dobbs. Joao Felipe Galvao was his DVM throughout his stay at OSU Veterinary Hospital the last week of his life. He gave me contact information for Schoedinger Funeral & Cremation Service so I could have Dobbs cremated. I had spoken with a woman (Teresa) who took down all of Dobbs information (name, birthday, date of death, breed, color, necropsy/no, ect.) including my personal contact information. I specifically informed her that his belongings be cremated with him (blankie and toys he had with him at the hospital) because it would be too painful for me to look at them, touch them, smell them. Even just to look at an unopened box and know they were in there. She repeated the information so that it was correct. She informed me someone would call me as soon as they pick up the body. Three days pass and no phone call. Grieving and very upset, I called Schoedinger Funeral & Cremation Service once again. The same woman, Teresa, informed me they were waiting on OSU for permission to pick up the body. I called OSU Veterinary Hospital and spoke with Joelle Nielsen, Honoring the Bond Program Coordinator. She was very understanding, and kind. She informed me Schoedinger did not need permission to pick up Dobbs the day he was euthanized since he did not have a necropsy performed. Prior to this, I had informed Schoedinger there would be no necropsy performed. My boy laid around in a morgue for almost a week due to a horrific mistake by Schoedinger. Joelle also informed me since Schoedinger failed to contact OSU, his belongings had already been mailed out in a big box after I specifically demanded to Schoedinger they be cremated with him. I was devastated. Days after this incident, I finally received a phone call from Schoedinger informing me they had the body. The body was not cremated until the 30th which is evident they did not pick up his body for almost a week after he was euthanized. Throughout this entire process, Schoedinger proceeded to call him by the wrong name (Bobbs) after I had repeatedly corrected them. Not once, not twice, but repeatedly. Even the plastic bag his ashes are in have the wrong name. Not once have I received an apology; from anyone besides Joelle from OSU. If this was a human cadavar, Schoedinger would be sued. But since it's a pet, they simply don't care. As a grieving mommy to a 6 year old deceased Boxer, I am mortified. They should not get away with this. Thanks to Schoedinger, they have made the grieving process more unbearable. I feel as if I've failed my boy in death. It is absolutely wrong, and something has to be done about this. What if they treat someone else this way? Good lord.
